New Partnership w/ TakeBackThanksgiving.org
It is a great privilege to announce a new partnership here at SaveThanksgiving.net … with TakeBackThanksgiving.org! After speaking with the organization’s owner, Annie, we have decided to align several of our efforts. The write-ups here on the site and presence on Twitter and Pinterest will continue on; however, there are several changes forthcoming.
- We have updated the link to a new online petition – the Take Back Thanksgiving Pledge. This pledge can be signed by individuals who vow not to shop on Thanksgiving Day. This, along with our online food drive with Feeding America, can be found under the “Our Partners” tab.
- For those that enjoy Facebook over other social media platforms, you can “Like” their page. Over 8,400 “Likes” and counting!
- We’ll be adding Pinners to our #SaveThanksgiving Pinterest board as they become available. If you would like to become a member on the board, just let me know.
Annie’s efforts in the past have led to a good amount of success and traction in her local area and even more broadly. Last year she was interviewed by local TV stations and on NPR. I’ve asked Annie to put together a few words on why Thanksgiving is so important to her and how her efforts got started:
“Seeing the disappointing trend of stores and malls opening on Thanksgiving Day has deeply concerned myself and others. Turning this national holiday, a day meant to focus on appreciation for what we already have, into a day for more consumerism is wrong on so many levels. Adding to this affront the fact that many employees are now being forced to leave their own holiday gatherings to serve this callous consumerism makes taking a stand all the more important. As we waited for someone else, some organization or leader, to stand up and say so, we realized that we needed to make our own stand. Hence the TakeBackThanksgiving campaign began.
Along the way, we have heard many heart-breaking stories of what this new trend is doing to families. We have also connected with other like-minded citizens who are not willing to lose this holiday without a fight. Galvanizing all those who care enough to take a stand is the only way we will have a say in what happens to Thanksgiving going forward. Fortunately there are so many people who do care.
Thank you John for rallying the troops on the East Coast. Together we can do this!“
Needless to say, I am excited about the partnership with Annie and her team. If you or anyone you know is interested in partnering (or sponsoring) with SaveThanksgiving.net, please do let me know.
Thank you! #SaveThanksgiving
John
